2011 BMW R 1200 RT Review and Specifications
2011 BMW R1200RT
2011 BMW R1200RT
As far as 2-cylinder fans are concerned, first-class touring has a memorable abbreviation - and it’s been around for 30 years: RT. For long-haul travellers there can hardly be any other term which has always stood for perfectly conceived motorcycling concept from start to finish: excellent wind and weather protection, optimum ergonomics, highly convenient operation combined with a top-class chassis fitted with the unique optional extras ASC and ESA II*. In the touring segment, these features probably define the ultimate benchmark of innovation. Even though the R 1200 RT cuts a superb figure everywhere with its dynamic new design, everything about it sends out the message: built to cover thousands of miles, preferably in one go.Then there is this fascinating mixture of distinctive engine and big bike dynamics. The characteristic “boxer” supremacy has been further enhanced in the current version: the engine’s crowning glory is now the radial DOHC** valve operating system from the HP2 Sport, though here designed for greater torque and without any loss of running smoothness: maximum torque 120 Nm, at 6000 rpm, rated output still at 81 kW (110 bhp). This means a tangible increase in thrust from the lower engine speed range through to above the medium range. The new valve control in the exhaust system ensures a discreet but more dynamic sound.
And in terms of comfort, the bike boasts a new audio system available as an optional extra, with the innovative operating concept Multi-Controller carrying out virtually all commands from a single unit. So there’s only one thing you have to do yourself - drop by for a test ride.
*ESA II = Electronic Suspension Adjustment. Electronic spring mount and spring rate adjustment
** DOHC = Double Overhead Camshaft, two overhead camshafts per cylinder

DUCATI PANIGALE 1199 R LAUNCHED GLOBALLY
Ducati Panigale 1199 R, race-spec variant of Panigale 1199 superbike has been launched at the new Circuit Of The Americas (COTA) racetrack in USA. Italian sports bike maker Ducati first showcased the bike at 2012 EICMA, where it dragged the attention of the bike enthusiasts. Ducati’s MotoGP riders and fellow Americans Nicky Hayden and Ben Spies rode the bikes prior to the media launch. The Panigale 1199 R has been named as per typical Ducati nomenclature, where the ‘R’ suffix stands for race-replica.

Speaking of the new 1199 Panigale R, Ducati says “Born of the world of competitive racing, the 1199 Panigale R is an exclusive and treasured interpretation of man’s passion for the racetrack: titanium piston rods, carbon fiber bodywork, Ducati Performance racing exhaust and livery inspired by the Ducati Corse. Perfection was never so close.”

Ducati Panigale 1199 R is based on the Panigale 1199 S, however the features have been upgraded including bodywork, equipment and the L-twin engine and Ducati Corse inspired paintjob makes it even more special. It gets a taller windscreen, a race seat, an abundance of carbon fibre components, swing-arm guard, heel guard, rear and front guard and covers for the swing-arm, heel, switchgear, conveyors, rear shock absorber and the clutch case, in addition to that of the Panigale S package. With these race-specific enhancements, its light weight of 166.5 Kgs (with ABS), a three-percent power has increased, and a four-point adjustable swingarm makes it a true racing bike.
Ducati has also made changes in the 1198cc L-Twin engine, which gets titanium connecting-rods, a lighter fly-wheel and a special race exhaust in the R version. However, the power and torque output have remained unchanged at 195hp @ 10,750rpm and 98.1 lb-ft (13.5kgm) @ 9,000rpm. But with two extra teeth on the rear sprocket, 1199R accelerates faster. Ducati engineers managed to maintain the top speed as the rev range has been increased by 500 RPM. The Panigale 1199 is already on sale in India and the 1199 R will arrive India soon.
